We have various papers available, pay for the paper at the end of the class. Bring stiff-bristled brushes and an apron. We will explore the use of multiple plates and Chine Colle'. You can then “pull” one or two prints at a time, each print will be unique. You can erase with various mark-making tools, or use washes or templates, manipulating the ink to get unique layers. We will then add color, using monoprint techniques with Akua Non toxic soy and honey-based inks, which clean up with soap and water. Artists make prints by working on the plate directly with printing inks, or an image can be created by exposing the plate through a transparent film with hand-drawn or digital artwork, photographs, or xeroxed images. Solarplate Etching is an incredibly fast and versatile new way of making non-toxic prints! A light sensitized steel-backed polymer plate is exposed using a small light unit or sunlight. We will be using Akua Non toxic soy and honey-based inks, which clean up with soap and water. Otherwise known as a transfer painting, monotype is a fun and easy way to pull prints with or without a press. Learn how to use an etching press to paint! Some monotype and/or other printmaking experience is helpful but not required. Don't fret! There will be linoleum blocks available for students to use to incorporate into their design. If you love printmaking and are intersted in how linoleum block printing can also be incorporrated with letterpress, this is the workshop for you! This workshop will teach how to lock up a pre-cut linoleum block and print it with hand-set type! Pre-cut linoleum blocks must be no larger than 4x5 inches and mounted to fit on the press.
